Days until calculator
Pick any future date and the countdown shows the days remaining from today, broken into weeks and days, plus the weekday it falls on.
Enter any date to see exactly how many days are left until it.
Pick a valid date to start the countdown.
The countdown is measured from your device's local date today to the date you choose, in whole days.
How does it work?
Days are counted in whole calendar days using UTC, so the result is unaffected by time zones or daylight saving. A negative count means the date has already passed.
Days-until formula
- d
- Whole days between today and the target date.
- target
- The date you are counting down to.
- today
- The current date (your local today).
From 1 June to 1 July is 30 days.
Method & sources
We count whole calendar days from today to the date you choose. Both dates are handled in UTC so time zones and daylight saving never shift the result. You pick the target date yourself — the calculator does not look up holidays or official calendars.

How we calculate
- The count is whole days from today to the date you choose.
- Today is your device's local date; the target date is the one you pick.
- A negative count means the date has already passed.
- The day of the week shown is the weekday the target date falls on.
Rounding
The countdown is in whole calendar days. Today and the target date are counted in UTC, so time zones and daylight saving never shift the result.
What this countdown does
This is the plain version of every countdown on the site: you pick a date, it tells you how many days are left. Nothing is attached to it and nothing is looked up, which makes it the right tool when the date is yours alone — a deadline someone handed you, a milestone you set yourself, a day you are counting toward for reasons no calculator could guess. The answer comes as whole days, as weeks and days, and with the weekday the date falls on.
How to use it
- Pick the date you're counting down to.
- Read the days remaining at the top.
- Check the weeks-and-days breakdown and the weekday it falls on.
- Use Share to send the live countdown to anyone.
When it's useful
Reach for it when nothing more specific fits. If you are counting to a fixed holiday or to a birthday, one of the dedicated countdowns below does more of the work for you — it finds the date itself and rolls forward to next year on its own. This page is for everything that is not already on somebody else's calendar.
Which countdown do you actually need?
The days-until pages on this site come in three kinds, and picking the right one often saves you from typing a date at all.
Fixed annual dates are worked out for you. Countdowns like Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day and the clocks changing take no input: they find the next occurrence from today and roll on to the following year the moment the day passes.
Recurring personal dates need the original date once. Enter a date of birth in the birthday countdown, or a wedding date in the anniversary countdown, and the page targets the next occurrence of that day and month rather than the year you typed.
Everything else is a single date you choose — this page, or one of the labelled versions of it. A wedding, a holiday, retirement and a due date all run exactly this calculation with a field name that matches what you are waiting for.
Calendar days, not working days
The count includes weekends and public holidays, because it measures elapsed time rather than effort. That is what you want for a holiday or a birthday, and not what you want for a deadline: 30 calendar days is roughly 21 or 22 working days, depending on where the weekends fall. If working days are the number you need, the business days calculator does that instead.
Does today count?
This is where countdowns disagree with one another. This page counts the days between today and the target, so a date tomorrow reads 1 day and a date today reads 0. Some calendars count inclusively and would call those same two dates 2 days and 1 day. Neither convention is wrong, but if your number differs from a printed schedule or another site by exactly one, that is almost always the reason.
Dates that have already passed
A date in the past gives a negative count, shown as days ago rather than days remaining, so the page doubles as a how-long-since tool. If you want the gap between two dates where neither of them is today, the date difference calculator takes both ends instead.
How the days are counted
The count is in whole calendar days from today to the date you pick, calculated in UTC so it never drifts with time zones or daylight saving. If the date has already passed, the count shows how many days ago it was.
FAQ
- How many days until a date?
- Pick the date above and the countdown shows the exact number of days remaining from today.
- Can I count days that have passed?
- Yes — pick a past date and the countdown shows how many days ago it was, as a negative count.
- Does the count include today?
- No. It counts the days between today and the target, so tomorrow is 1 day and today is 0. Calendars that count inclusively give a figure one higher, which explains most disagreements between countdowns.
- Does it count working days?
- No, it counts calendar days including weekends and public holidays. For working days, use the business days calculator instead.
- Which countdown should I use for a holiday like Christmas?
- The dedicated one. Countdowns for fixed annual dates work the date out themselves, so there is nothing to enter and nothing to update once the day has passed.
- Does it handle leap years?
- Yes. The count is done in whole calendar days in UTC, so a 29 February inside the range is simply one more day, and time zones or daylight saving never shift the result.
- Can I share the countdown?
- Yes. Share copies a link that reopens the countdown to the same date, always counting from the viewer's today.
