What this countdown does

When it's useful

Mostly it answers the question before it becomes a problem. Anything engraved, printed, or shipped needs a week or two of lead time, and June is a busy month for restaurant bookings. Reading the countdown as weeks rather than a single day count makes it obvious which of those options is still open to you.

The UK and US agree on this one

This is worth knowing if you have family on both sides of the Atlantic. Unlike Mother's Day, which the UK celebrates in March and the US in May, Father's Day is the third Sunday of June in both countries — and in Ireland and Canada too. A card posted across the Atlantic is aimed at the same date on both ends. Australia and New Zealand are the outliers in the English-speaking world: they mark it on the first Sunday of September.

  • About 1 week out: post cards and parcels, especially internationally.

Why does the date differ so much by country?
Father's Day was never coordinated internationally. Some countries adopted the American June Sunday, others attached it to an existing religious or national date. This page follows the site language's convention.

Not in the English-speaking countries — it falls on a Sunday and carries no day off. In Germany it coincides with Ascension Day, which is a public holiday there.
